VLA Presidential Citation for Kate Lindley

As the battle for the First Amendment wages on, there are many contributing to the cause with their words, time, representation and support. One of these individuals stands out for her vision, persistence, and courage in the face of authority.

Ms. Kate Lindley, whose Girl Scout Gold Award –an impressive feat itself—provided free access to challenged books through community collaboration, research and marketing, faced censorship of her own by the Hanover Board of Supervisors. Ms. Lindley’s poised and persistent response to such censorship; her consistent message for the freedom to read; and her own intellectual freedom, has earned her this VLA Presidential Citation:

In recognition of Kate Lindley’s Book Nook Girl Scout Gold Award and her courage and persistence in the face of authority, and her conviction for the Freedom to Read; for providing more than 438 challenged books for the community, with a virtual method for assessing usage; for the creation of the Free to Read app to provide accurate information regarding challenged books; for the creation and distribution of Talk Totes; this VLA Presidential Citation honors her work.

At the moment, donations to Kate’s projects are on hold; you may send gift cards to her for future purchases at [email protected]. Amazon and other gift cards are accepted, in any amount.
