Matt Haddox

What is your current position? Programming and Community Outreach Librarian II

Where do you work? Virginia Beach Public Library- TCC/City Joint-Use Library

When did you first know that you wanted to work in the library field? I realized how much fun it was to help people while also having the ability to be creative.

What is your favorite part of librarianship? I think my favorite part of librarianship is that we get to touch on so many different disciplines and that we can use our skills for the common good.

What was your first library or library-related job? I was a shelver with the Virginia Beach Public Library in 2006.

What projects or programs are you currently working on at your library? I am currently helping our system create a tool to be more intentionally inclusive in library programs, and expand the content that we currently offer.

What issue or topic in librarianship are you most interested in? I do a lot of work in the fields of inclusion and diversity.  

Why are you a member of VLA and what is the most important reason to you for being a member of VLA? I am the vice-chair of the LGBTQIA+ Forum, and I believe we can help other libraries make their services and programs more inclusive, starting with the LGBTQIA+ community.
