ALA Councilor

Lucy Rush Wittkower

What is your current position? Head of Teaching & Learning Initiatives

Where do you work? Old Dominion University

When did you first know that you wanted to work in the library field? When I was working on my Masters in Music Education I loved research methods and assisting my classmates with their research. Seven years later I became a librarian!

What is your favorite part of librarianship? I like that there are always a lot of different types of things to do and learn about.

What was your first library or library-related job? My first library job was as a Reference & Outreach Librarian at Coastal Carolina University.

What projects or programs are you currently working on at your library? We are busy getting ready to start the Fall semester. I'm currently working on a long-term assessment project and a tutorial related to misinformation. I'm also planning a series of faculty workshops on teaching information literacy topics.

What issue or topic in librarianship are you most interested in? Most recently I'm interested in organizational management and psychology particularly within academic libraries, and I also love assessment and teaching topics.

Why are you a member of VLA and what is the most important reason to you for being a member of VLA? I have two important reasons for being a member of VLA. Over the years I've been able to gain valuable leadership experience and develop skills through VLA committee involvement. Most importantly, VLA has been a wonderful way for me to network and form working relationships and friendships with people from all over the state and from all different types of libraries.
