VLA GNDA Winners Pay it Forward

Earlier this year, the VLA Diversity & Inclusion Forum started its first Graphic Novel Diversity Award, spearheaded by Kevin Clement of the Chesapeake Public Library. The winner for the Adult category has shared this message with us about how they spent the $500 prize they received (courtesy of a sponsorship by the Virginia Commonwealth University Library). “On behalf of the team that produces BITCH PLANET, I wanted to reach out and thank you for the award.  We discussed it as a team and decided to pay it forward by using the money to provide books for a classroom. We chose to fund the "Sheroes and Heroes: Using Comics to Hook Non-Readers" project.…and thought you might enjoy seeing the photos of the results. Libraries are our heroes’ HQ. 2016 VLA Vendor Update

We have received phenomenal support for our annual conference from vendors! It is the financial support of these vendors that makes our annual conference possible. Please show your appreciation for our exhibitors by making time to visit them during non-conflict times at the Omni Homestead Resort next month. The Exhibit Hall will be open from 8:30 am – 5:00 pm on Thursday, October 27, and Friday, October 28, from 8:30 am – 2:00 pm.

VLA Announces 2016 Award Winners

The Virginia Library Association (VLA) is pleased to announce the 2016 winners of the VLA Donna G. Cote Librarian of the Year, Up and Comer Award, Public Library Innovator Award, Trustee Library Award, the George Mason Award, Friends of the Library Award, Trustee Library Award, and the George Mason Award. The awards will be presented at the VLA Annual Conference.

Join us as we celebrate these winners during our 25th Annual Scholarship & Awards Banquet from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26. Celebrate VLA’s 2016 Scholarship and Award Winners with a delicious sit-down dinner prepared in The Homestead’s award-winning kitchen. The cost is $55. All proceeds will be donated to the Scholarship Fund. It is not too late to buy a ticket, even if you have already registered and paid for the conference!
