WHO WE ARE:
Chesterfield County Public Library is seeking an Outreach Librarian to join its team of innovative, forward-thinking professionals in providing engaging information services to a vibrant and appreciative community.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• The successful candidate will possess a master’s degree in library and/or information science from a graduate program accredited by the American Library Association (ALA); possession of, or ability to obtain prior to employment, a Librarian's Professional Certificate issued by the Library of Virginia; at least one year of related experience to include outreach, program development, implementation and evaluation; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. 
• Ability to speak and write fluently in Spanish and English preferred.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with a variety of people from different backgrounds.
• Strong writing skills; attention to detail and accuracy; ability to work independently and meet deadlines; critical thinking and analytical skills.
• Ability to operate a personal computer and related software including database applications. Ability to operate office equipment such as scanners, copiers, laptops, and tablets.

DUTIES:
•Receive and seek out outreach requests from the community and work with library staff to fulfill the requests. Represent the library at outreach events to lead outreach programs and promote the library to the community.
•Provide communication support at outreach opportunities in both English and Spanish
•Provide support materials to outreach events, suggesting and developing support materials for events based on expected audience.
•Develop relationships and partnerships within the community, creating opportunities for the library to be invited to participate in community events.?  
•Provides professional information research and readers advisory services to customers using traditional and electronic tools and resources.
•Provide service at information desks or during outreach events.
•Coordinate with strategic plan goal champions on outreach goals and initiatives
•Supervise part-time Outreach Specialist.
•Operate customized library outreach vehicle (training on vehicle will be provided) as well as outreach van and other county vehicles.
•Handle and secure confidential information.
•Perform other work as required.

This position is a part of an approved Career Development Plan (CDP) and offers career progression opportunities and salary incentives, as funding permits, based on performance, qualifications, and experience. 

Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard reach; stoop kneel to install computer equipment; specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work; light to moderate lifting is required; and, regular, predictable attendance is required; including quarter-driven hours as business demands dictate. Moderate noise (i.e., business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic); ability to work in a confined area; and the ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period.
