2020 VLA Scholarship Fundraising DriveUPDATE: 11/20/20Thanks to our generous donors, we have exceeded our goal for scholarships by almost $600, which puts us in a great position to begin funding the 2021 VLA Scholarship Program! These additional funds will go toward next year’s recipients. On Wednesday, the VLA Scholarship Committee celebrated current and past recipients of VLA Scholarships on Zoom. While we missed seeing everyone in person, it was great to connect and get updates from past winners. October/November 2020VLA Scholarships change lives. They change the lives of those who receive them, and they impact the communities where those recipients become librarians. Since 1991, VLA has provided 74 scholarships to members of our association. Those members have gone on to positions throughout libraries in Virginia and beyond. They have provided services and programs to innumerable VA residents. We encourage you to scroll through the stories below and get to know our Scholarship Winners. In 2019, the Past Presidents of VLA came together to fund a scholarship in memory of Commander Alexander C. Varga, the late husband of our Executive Director, Lisa. The Virginia Public Library Directors Association generously contributed $2500 to the VLA Scholarship Fund this year. This year, the Virginia Library Association was unable to host a conference – and, therefore, a Scholarship Basket Raffle. We are asking for your support for a tax-deductible donation to help us reach our goal. The Scholarship Committee is hosting a casual Zoom event on November 18, 2020, from 6:30-7:30pm Eastern. We encourage you to join us, bring a beverage of your choice, and connect with library staff across the Commonwealth.
