Meet A Member: Jerilyn Polson

Jerilyn Polson, Fairfax County Public Library
Oakton Library Branch Manager

What was your first library job?
During college, working in the University library system. I had 2 simultaneously, my freshman year in college:
Music Library Assistant, nights and evenings working the Ref Desk and Serials, Conservation & Special Services, where I learned what makes libraries work behind the scenes.

What is your favorite part of librarianship?
Meeting customers of all ages and seeing the positive difference that the public library makes in their lives. Hard to choose just one, I've been in public libraries 20+ years.

What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you on the job?
Last week a young lady asked for biology information about Thurgood Marshall.

If you could have anything in the universe installed in your office for your personal use, what would it be?
An administrative assistant. One who could read my mind.

What is something your colleagues would be surprised to know about you?
I was an opera singer.
