Meet a Member: Jane Blue

Jane BlueWhere do you work?
Andrews Public Library in Andrews, North Carolina

What is your current position?
Branch Librarian

When did you first know that you wanted to be a librarian?
When I was a little girl I loved the Library. My parents always knew that was where I was if I did not come straight home from school. I volunteered as a Paige in middle and High school and read vicariously. I love books, paper and electronic, so pretty much all my life I’ve known I belong in the Library.

What was your first library job?
I volunteered as a Church Librarian.

What is your favorite part of librarianship?
The people. I love to serve the public and every day is different.

What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you on the job?
All librarians get the proverbial, "can you help me find this book that has a green cover" but I had a patron ask for a book that she thinks was purple with a waterfall on the front, I'm still looking and someday I am determined I will find that book.

If you could have anything in the universe installed in your office for your personal use, what would it be?
A recliner so I can take an occasional power nap.

What is something your colleagues would be surprised to know about you?
I sing professionally and recorded an album in 1990.
