The City of Virginia Beach is recruiting for a Library Public Services Manager that reports to the Executive Director of Virginia Beach Public Library and oversee 10 branch locations and a full time equivalent of 207 staff members.  

The person in this position in partnership with the Executive Director is responsible for overall management of operations and service activities if the Virginia Beach Public Library; supports the Executive Director on strategic planning; budget development and achieving system-wide goals; develops operational plans and monitors the Library’s operational performance; ensures proper conditions, controls, policies and procedures are in place for provision of high quality service, fiscally responsible operations and responsiveness to the needs of the citizens of Virginia Beach; reviews and administers Library policies and procedures; represents the Library to staff, outside agencies and the community; and acts on behalf of the Executive Director as required.  

Requires a Master of Library Science/Master of Library and Information Science/Studies from an American Library Association accredited college or University or Virginia State Library Certification, plus five years experience in professional/administrative library work, with a minimum of three years in public library administration.

Highly qualified candidates will have experience providing the management of operations and service activities for a compatible sized library system. Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating library policy and procedures, success developing and strengthening partnerships to assist in public service delivery, and developing staff through setting goals, performance expectations, and developing training programs. Knowledge of current library services best practices to include evaluating library programs in the digital age.

Salary Range:  $86,444.80 - $132,704.00
