The City of Charlottesville is seeking candidates to be considered for the position of Reference Librarian for the Central Library who are highly motivated and who strive for success by demonstrating Charlottesville's Core Values of Leadership, Trust, Creativity, Respect, and Excellence. The preferred starting salary for this position is $20.03 an hour. Starting offer is based on applicable education, experience, and internal equity. This is a full-time, non-exempt, position. - The City of Charlottesville manages its own retirement system and does not participate in VRS; however, the City has a Portability Agreement with VRS and there are certain provisions that must be met. This position provides reader's advisory and reference services and assistance to patrons of all ages in the use of library resources and equipment; assists with some circulation tasks and general library duties; and in the absence of a manager may occasionally be called upon to serve as the acting manager employee in charge.
Minimum Qualifications:
- MLS degree from an ALA accredited school required.
- Previous library experience and knowledge of general reference sources and a willingness to read both juvenile and young adult literature required.
- Experience with MS Office suite and online reference resources required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Three years of previous library work experience is preferred.
