WHO WE ARE: Chesterfield Public Library is a forward-thinking library system with a passion for providing access to information, facilitating engaging customer experiences, and enriching the lives of our community in innovative ways. The Library currently has an opportunity for a full-time Branch Manager at our Ettrick-Matoaca Library. We are looking for someone who desires to be an integral part of a vibrant library system moving forward to create new, outcome-driven programs and services for the Chesterfield community.
Successful candidate will possess a Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited library program; five years of professional experience in a public library; two years of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must possess or be able to obtain a Librarian's Professional Certificate by the State of Virginia. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of and experience in applying the principles and practices of management. Must demonstrate a strong customer service orientation and strong administrative and leadership skills. Demonstrated project management and program development experience. Demonstrated ability to work in a large, team-based, collaborative environment and get quantifiable results. Ability to develop strong community relationships and partnerships. Considerable knowledge of current principles and practices of library science. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing to include making presentations to large groups; to operate a personal computer and related software and other technologies; Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with a variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds and of varying ages; to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers; to supervise staff and to understand and implement the Chesterfield Public Library strategic approach. Experience in managing and communicating change. Experience in managing a library branch or department preferred. DUTIES: • Supervises, trains, and evaluates the work of supervisory, professional, and other staff. • Manages and supervises the operations and activities of a library branch, including circulation services, programming, readers' advisory and reference services. • Implements, enforces, and monitors the policies, procedures, goals and objectives for library services; evaluates the effectiveness of services. • Uses data to inform decisions and support recommendations for program and service delivery. • Participates in the development of a branch budget. • Authorizes and monitors budget expenditures for a library branch. • Supervises branch collections management. • Coordinates the care and maintenance of library building and grounds. • Oversees and participates in outreach to the community, community organizations, and schools; educates community members and organizations about library services, programs, and collections. • Responds to customer inquiries and resolves difficult and sensitive complaints. • Performs other work as required. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITION: Work is performed in library office, library locations and other professional settings; extensive use of computers and devices required. Light to medium, occasionally heavy, physical requirements which may include, sitting, standing, walking, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing, stooping, kneeling crouching, fingering, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing, visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal and reading; not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
