VLA Welcomes Amy Sanders as Administrative Assistant

The Virginia Library Association is pleased to announce that Amy Sanders has joined us as a part-time Administrative Assistant, working remotely.

Since its founding in 1905, VLA has grown in number; expanded the scope of its organization; engaged legislatively at the state and federal level; provided its members with newsletters, scholarly journals, and a website; and supported library education, training, and outreach.

With more than 4800 members, and a variety of Committees and Forums that provide leadership and volunteer opportunities, the Association has broadened its scope and added new awards and programming in recent years. In her role as Administrative Assistant, Amy will help to support current needs as well as future expansions.

Amy Sanders has more than 15 years experience working with associations both as an association employee and as a volunteer with her professional association. Amy has a BS in Journalism from West Virginia University and an MA in Higher Education from Appalachian State University. Prior to coming to the Virginia Library Association she spent 13 years in Conference and Camps Services at Appalachian State University, 11 as the director. While at App State, she held leadership positions and volunteered often with the Association of Collegiate Conference and Event Directors - International which furthered her knowledge of the importance of being part of an organization that advocates for your profession, and the satisfaction of knowing you had a part of making that happen through your volunteerism.

Amy and her husband Rob live most of the time in Florida where Rob works for Rollins College. They also spend time at their “retirement home” in Blowing Rock, North Carolina. They have one daughter, Caitlin, who will be starting her second year at East Tennessee State University this fall.

Please join us in welcoming Amy to the VLA team. You’ll begin to see her name in your inbox soon!
