Librarian IV- Branch Manager

  • Manages the operations of a Community Library; hires, trains, evaluates staff; prepares and monitors budget expenditures for the branch
  • Create a comfortable, safe and attractive facility to ensure convenient and barrier-free access for customers
  • Understands, develops, and explains library policies and procedures to customers and staff in order to resolve conflicts and achieve mutually agreeable resolutions, resolves complaints from customers
  • Facilitate individual and group use of meeting rooms and other library spaces to support the library as a center of community life and activities.
  • Lead, facilitate and participate in City and department teams to develop strategic plans, and resolve problems and improve current processes
  • Has a leadership role in library-wide policy¬ making and in the development and evaluation of services; fosters engagement with constituents.
  • Plan and evaluate library programs to encourage lifelong learning, development of literacy skills, and foster effective use of the library                                                 
  • Present oral and/or written analyses and proposals to guide City department and State decision making.
  • Seek, learn, understand and incorporate current trends to predict the direction of change and design of responsive library services
  • Communicate in a variety of ways with staff and the public to foster dialogue and feedback while building understanding of departmental and City goals and processes.

Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less.

Minimum Requirements:
MINIMUMS: Requires a Master of Library Science from an American Library Association accredited college plus five (5) years in professional/administrative library work with a minimum of two (2) years in a supervisory capacity or in professional/administrative library work which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required to meet operational needs.
