Diversity and Inclusion Forum

In an effort to both better serve, better represent, and be better represented by a diverse group of people, VLA formed the Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Forum in 2015.

The D&I Forum aims to create an atmosphere of understanding and inclusion, and to promote programs and services to a more diverse community, including by not limited to those of various ethnic, religious, cultural, gender, sexual orientations, age and abilities.

VLA Graphic Novel Diversity Award

One of the first acts of the D&I Forum was to create the VLA Graphic Novel Diversity Award. The award promotes graphic novels dealing with subjects or characters of diversity as quality literature that fits with the purpose of libraries to educate and promote reading to all reading levels. The first slate of winners will be announced ahead of the VLA Annual Conference in October. Learn more about the VLA Graphic Novel Diversity Awards.
