Program: Mentoring can be a critical element in success, retention, and promotion of librarians. But how can we ensure that mentoring is available to all, insulate ourselves from personality conflicts and staff turnover, and get librarians at all levels involved? This session will discuss best practices in mentoring, describe five different models for mentoring programs, highlight the group mentoring program currently in place at the University of Colorado Boulder, and help you determine which approach might prove most effective in your environment. 12 to 1:00 – Lunch The panel will be a new librarian talking about how mentoring has helped them start in academic librarianship (Roriebeth Fredrich), a mid-career academic librarian (Eric Johnson), and a senior librarian (Suzy Szasz Palmer) talking about the affect mentoring has had on their career. We will then have time for audience questions, with the focus on applying the lessons personally. 2:30 to 3:00 – Tour of the newly designed Cabell Library Registration Costs, Procedures, and Deadlines Registration http://bit.ly/1S2YVSs for the VLACRL Program is open through July 18, 2016.
